History in the Making
Dear Lana,
After you went to sleep last night, your father and I watched a changing of the guard in American politics. We watched as people across the country celebrated the election of the first African American and, in my opinion, the absolute best candidate for the job, to the presidency of the United States. And even though I voted for Barack Obama, his acceptance speech moved me in a way that I didn’t expect. I found myself truly excited about the political process and hopeful, for the first time in a long time, that we as a nation can work together to create a brighter future for our children.
I sincerely hope that, in time, this will prove to be the turning point so many of us have longed for. That one day you will open a history textbook and read the words of our new president, and you too will be proud.
Love,
Mommy (JMo)

“This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.”
